Body Contouring after Weight Loss in South Jersey
Plastic Surgery After Massive Weight Loss
Patients who have lost a significant amount of weight (100 pounds or more) are overjoyed with their success and proud of what they’ve achieved. Unfortunately some patients may also be disappointed with the substantial amount of loose skin left behind. Body contouring after massive weight loss removes excess fat and skin.
This results in a more normal appearance both in and out of clothes. A body contouring (or body lift) procedure can include one or more of the following:
For the Upper Body
Breast Lift/Breast Reduction: A mastopexy procedure, commonly known as a breast lift, corrects drooping, flattened breasts with or without the use of an implant to produce an elevated, more youthful looking breast contour. After weight loss, if the breasts are still too large or heavy, a breast reduction procedure may also be suggested to decrease the breast size.
Arm Lift (Brachioplasty): Frequently after extreme weight loss patients are left with flabby skin and fat around the upper arms. An arm lift procedure can reshape the upper arm revealing a smoother, tighter contour almost immediately.
Upper Back Lift: Very rarely patients who have lost an extreme amount of weight are left with loose skin and fat pockets in the upper back area. In that case an upper back lift may be included in the body contouring procedure.
For the Lower Body
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty): A tummy tuck is intended to give the patient a smoother, flatter abdomen by removing excess loose or sagging abdominal skin. For some patients tightening of the abdominal wall muscles is included in the procedure as well. How much skin needs to be removed and from where determines the length of the incision (scar). Buttock Lift with Augmentation: After massive weight loss patients are often left with a flattened, drooping backside. A buttock lift with augmentation will correct the shape, size and position of the buttock.
Lateral and Medial Thigh Lifts: Reshapes the inner, outer and mid-thigh by removing sagging skin. Liposuction may also be used to remove stubborn, excess fat that is not lost with diet, exercise or weight loss surgery.
