3D Imaging For Rhinoplasty

Using Vectra 3D Imaging, we can show patients their potential results before they commit to rhinoplasty. During a consultation, numerous 3D cameras capture photos of the patient from many angles. These photos are used to create a 3D before image and a 3D after image. These images allow patients to communicate their expectations and concerns more effectively while considering all of their surgical options. Vectra 3D imaging also enables Dr. Franckle to more effectively understand exactly what each patient wants out of the experience. There really is no substitute for this technology during a consultation.

Types Of Rhinoplasty

Upon consulting with Dr. Franckle, you can decide which surgical technique will most closely align with your aesthetic goals. Both “open” and “closed” procedures can be done on an outpatient basis using general anesthesia. In all cases, Dr. Franckle strives to achieve the desired results using as few incisions as possible because this may help reduce discomfort and healing time.

A Rhinoplasty Surgery

To begin the actual procedure, Dr. Franckle makes the necessary incisions in order to gently lift soft tissues and gain access to the cartilage and nasal bones that make up the shape of the nose. Common maneuvers made during this surgery involve the reshaping of the small cartilages from the tip or bridge of the nose. Depending on the shape or deviation of the nasal profile, small cuts in the nasal bones may also be necessary. In cases where nasal breathing is partially obstructed, the nasal airway will be opened or straightened as necessary. Once these actions are complete, the nasal skin and underlying tissues are redraped over the reshaped nasal skeleton and the incisions are closed. Additional incisions are sometimes made at the outer base of each nostril if there is a desire to alter the nostril size or symmetry.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

After the surgery is complete, you will be sent home with a small splint placed over the bridge of the nose and soft rubber splints along the nasal septum. Dr. Franckle almost never uses nasal packing since this tends to be very uncomfortable and prevents nasal breathing while in place. Once home, you will need to rest with your head elevated to minimize any swelling. Most swelling will subside in the first few days to a week. The internal septal splints, if used, are removed during your follow-up office visit in the first 3 or 4 days. The dorsal (bridge) splint is usually removed after 7 to 10 days, depending on how quickly you are healing. Overall, most patients report swelling and bruising have completely subsided after about 2 to 4 weeks. They also often say the recovery was much easier than they had expected. The final result of the reshaping procedure will be evident in 12-14 months, but most of the result is evident after just 2 months.
