What Are Your Options for Facial Implants?

There are many reasons why patients choose facial implants. Whatever the reasoning, there are several options to choose from depending on the desired results. Here’s a look at the top three:

1. Chin Implants

The chin is an integral part of the face’s overall balance, yet it is an area that is commonly overlooked by the general public when researching cosmetic treatments. If the chin is not in proportion with the forehead and midface, an imbalance can be noticeable. Another common complaint is a chin that ‘disappears into the neck’ and makes you look heavier than you are. The purpose of chin implants is to reshape and redefine the chin. Depending on the approach, Dr. Franckle may choose to make an incision inside of the lower lip or in the crease underneath the chin. Once the implant is in and morphed with the jawbone, Dr. Franckle will then symmetrically align it with the rest of your face for a smooth, refined look.

2. Jaw Implants

Similar to a small chin, a weak jawline can leave the bottom of the face looking undefined, without a distinct angle between the lower cheeks and the neck. Inserting a jaw implant can create a clean and concise contour from the ears to the chin and for some, increase the width of the lower third of the face. A jaw implant surgery reconstructs a patient’s profile and helps to prevent sloping around the neck and ears, to further define the facial outline. For some patients, a jaw implant and chin implant may be used for optimal results.

3. Cheek Implants

Cheeks can often look flat or lack definition, throwing off the symmetrical balance of a person’s face. Commonly this happens as we age and we lose fat in our faces, but for some, recessed cheeks is a natural occurrence. Cheek implants, or a cheek augmentation, can give back a well-rounded and fuller midface look. Cheek implants can increase the projection of the cheekbones and display a more defined cheek contour, helping to redefine the facial balance.

Choosing the Right Surgeon

Making the decision to have facial implants is a very personal one. For this reason, it’s important to find a board-certified surgeon that has experience with these types of procedures. At the same time, it is important to explore all of our options. Along with or in place of a facial implant, injectable fillers have been used at our office to add volume to the face. At a consultation with Dr. Franckle, he can determine what option is best for your facial structure as well as your lifestyle.
