Mommy Makeover in South Jersey
Now, more than ever, women are asking about Mommy Makeovers as a means to take back their pre-baby bodies. The Mommy Makeover is actually not a single procedure, but a customized package that combines the effects of breast augmentation and/or breast lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction. Dr. Franckle of Premier Plastic Surgery Arts in Voorhees can match you with the correct sequence of procedures to accurately address your unique aesthetic goals.
Body After Baby
Due to the transformative nature of childbirth, many mothers are left unsatisfied with their new post-baby body. The body carries fat differently during pregnancy, often resulting in fuller curves around the abdomen, breast, and thigh region. These fat deposits might prove unresponsive to diet and exercise. Or, after significant weight loss following pregnancy or pregnancies, your skin might not be as elastic as it once was. Breasts are often left slightly deflated after pregnancy and breastfeeding. What’s more, many mothers experience a slight paunche in their midsection. After nine months of intense stretching, the abdominal wall doesn’t immediately return to its original tightness.
Childbirth is a truly miraculous event and your body should be the last of your concerns. This doesn’t mean, however, that you have to settle for a physique you find unsatisfying. With the Mommy Makeover, South Jersey and surrounding area moms can fight the physical effects of motherhood and shift their focus to the more magical elements of parenthood.
Mommy Makeover Patient Candidacy
The ideal candidate for the Mommy Makeover does not plan on becoming pregnant again. If a patient does become pregnant after the procedure, the effects may be reversed. Before undergoing a tummy tuck or liposuction, the patient will need to be as close as possible to their ideal weight. It’s also crucial that the patient is able to maintain their near-ideal weight as any substantial weight gain after surgery can alter the end results.
As with any invasive procedure, it is absolutely paramount that the patient be otherwise healthy before undergoing surgery. Dr. Franckle also advises that patients stop smoking prior to surgery to promote proper healing and recovery. It is also necessary to allow your body ample time to heal after childbirth before undergoing major surgery.
During pregnancy, many women experience breast engorgement. However, after childbirth and breastfeeding, the breasts can lose a substantial amount of volume, resulting in a saggy or deflated chest. When the breasts have become ptotic, Dr. Franckle will advise a breast lift procedure rather than breast augmentation in order to entirely reposition the breast.
For the breast lift procedure, there are three distinct incision patterns. Dr. Franckle will determine which incision is right for you based on the level of ptosis, the shape, and the size of your breast. The first incision borders the areola. The second pattern has an additional vertical incision, from the periareolar incision, down to the breast crease. The third incision builds on the second pattern, covering a wider area horizontally on the breast crease.
After the incision is made, whichever suits your specific needs, the underlying tissue is reshaped and lifted, resulting in firmer, perkier breasts. The nipple and areola are then repositioned at a more natural height. The areola may be resized if necessary to create a proportionate, cohesive look and the incisions are closed.
A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty, whether mini or full, is performed to remove excess fatty tissue and skin. What’s more, a tummy tuck can repair the abdominal wall and tighten your stomach. During the procedure, an incision is made slightly above the pubic area. The shape and overall length of the incision is largely determined by the amount of excess skin, tissue, and fat. A second incision may be necessary in order to remove excess skin around or above the navel. Once the skin is lifted, Dr. Franckle can go in and repair the weakened abdominal wall. A hole is made in the skin in order to reposition the navel and the incisions are then closed.
Liposuction or lipoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure, which can successfully remove excess fatty tissue from specific areas on the body. Some common areas Dr. Franckle addresses in the Mommy Makeover include:
- Upper or inner thighs
- Lower Back
- Backs of arms
- Neck or jaw line
First, multiple tiny incisions are made in the skin and a sterile cannula is inserted. The cannula is moved in a controlled back and forth motion in order to dislodge the fat deposits, which are then removed by a surgical vacuum attached to the end of the cannula.
During pregnancy, the body begins to store fat in different areas, retaining energy stocks for both baby and mother. These fat deposits can prove unresponsive to regular diet and exercise. Lipoplasty can successfully target these areas, helping you regain your pre-baby body.
Each pregnancy is 100% unique, as is each mother’s body. As such, each procedure plan designed by Dr. Franckle is entirely different from one patient to the next. Some patients elect to undergo additional procedures in order to target their specific problem areas and achieve their personal aesthetic goals. Supplementary procedures include:
- Non-surgical dermal fillers
- Thigh lift
- Body lift
- Butt enhancement
- Skin rejuvenation
- Vein treatment
- and more!
A patient’s overall recovery time will depend on their specific sequence of procedures. Dr. Franckle will discuss your procedure plan during your initial consultation and will be able to provide a general timeline for your recovery. The combination of procedures can affect your overall recovery time, but most women are able to return to work within a week.
It’s important that patients are otherwise healthy pre-surgery in order to promote optimal healing and to shorten the recovery time. Dr. Franckle advises that patients quit smoking well before the surgery so as to prevent complications. Smoking significantly hinders the body’s ability to heal.
It is also crucial that patients follow any and all instructions provided by Dr. Franckle post-surgery. He may advise that patients wear specialized compression garments in order to reduce swelling. Specialized drains may also be used to prevent the buildup of fluid at the procedure site, which require special care. Dr. Franckle will provide specific instructions for bathing, dressing, and caring for the incision sites. During your consultation, Dr. Franckle will provide an approximate time frame for returning to work, engaging in moderate physical activity, and when you can resume normal or intense activity.
