The Importance of 3D Imaging Before a Procedure

Posted on July 25th, 2019 by Dr. William Franckle

It was not too long ago that patients and doctors had to rely on their imagination to envision what the results of a plastic surgery procedure might look like. Now, thanks to Vectra 3D Imaging, patients can see a virtual 3D image of their own body and a predicated result after surgery. Here’s how Vectra 3D Imaging works, and why it is so important during the consultation stage.

How 3D Imaging Works

Vectra 3D Imaging uses several specialized cameras to take multiple pictures of a patient’s body from a variety of angles. These images are then combined to create two three-dimensional, virtual renderings of the patient’s body, one representing the “before” body and the other representing the “after” body. Dr. Franckle can then modify the “after” image based on the patient’s requests and his expertise until the best projected results are reached.

The Importance of 3D Imaging

Accurate 3D imaging is so important during the consultation stage because it can give a patient realistic expectations following their plastic surgery procedure. It also helps patients determine precisely what their desired results are, allowing Dr. Franckle to develop an optimal course of action going forward. Patients who aren’t exactly sure which procedures, if any, they want to undergo can also benefit from seeing themselves and their possible “after” appearance rendered in 3D.

3D Imaging for a Variety of Procedures

Vectra 3D Imaging is useful for predicting results in a wide variety of plastic surgery procedures. For example, a patient considering breast augmentation can get an accurate depiction of how a larger breast size will look on their own body. Patients considering facial contouring, which often has very pronounced results, can verify that they’re comfortable with the possible results before moving forward with surgery.

At the office of William Franckle, MD, FACS, we offer patients 3D imaging at no cost during consultation. To learn more about how 3D imaging can help you before your breast, body, or facial procedure, or to schedule a consultation, call us today at 856.772.6500.
